For over 10 years, JHM Collective have developed a fresh, exciting and energetic approach to collaboration, drawing on their individual strengths and specialisms to remain at the forefront of artistic exploration, but also with the wider creative and production teams by whom they are commissioned/with whom they collaborate, in response to the project at hand.

Trust and respect, and communication within the creative process - these are central to the group’s ethos. They pride themselves in bringing a fresh, flexible and innovative approach, applying 360-degree thinking to all engagements.

A compositional powerhouse, JHM Collective have been the leading voice at the forefront of the Celtic Noir TV drama movement, their music now synonymous with this internationally distributed genre, garnering global recognition and plaudits.

Viewed in many more than 100 countries worldwide, their music for productions in this field include Hinterland (BBC, All3, & subsequent Netflix distribution), “single-handedly invented what became known as Welsh Noir” [Royal Television Society]. Critics specifically highlighted the musical sound-world they created: “a thoroughly stylish production... (& a) stirring score” [Sunday Times], “a haunting soundtrack” [The Guardian], “the music uses subtle melodic tones to perfectly convey the mood throughout” [Hollywood News], and “surely the loveliest of detective drama scores” [Radio Times].

Hidden (BBC, All3), was similarly lauded for its “ominous, skin-prickling soundtrack skilfully employed to heighten the sense of dread” [The Guardian]. As the original curators of that evocative Cymru Noir sound, John Hardy Music Artists have been at the helm of the subsequent wider ‘Celtic Noir’ TV resurgence.

Other key TV commissions include the drama series Light in the Hall (Channel 4), starring BAFTA Award-winner Joanna Scanlon, and off-beat dark comedy crime caper Tree On A Hill (BBC/ALL3). Recent film credits include Steel Country (A Dark Place) starring BAFTA award winner (and hot priest) Andrew Scott.
